New Orleans Botanical Garden 2005
After Hurricane Katrina

I went to the botanic garden for the first time since the hurricane today . . . not a pretty sight. So many plants are dead from the flooding, including most of the plants in the conservatories.

But the water lilies were inexplicably bigger and better than ever! At one point, there was at least 18 inches of brackish water over the pond . . . for a week! The Aussie hybrids did really well . . . one plant had five flowers on it. There were eight flowers on the night bloomer. It looks like they do not need my constant care after all! However, there was no trace of the Victoria . . .
