James Knock, who lives in the United Kingdom, has been a dedicated collector of Strawn waterlily cultivars for many years and is an expert in their identification and cultivation. Most cultivars were obtained directly from Strawn Water Gardens in the years 1994 through 1998. In these galleries, James takes us through seasonal and age related changes in coloration of many Strawn cultivars. High summer in England, sometimes only two to three weeks long, provides the most dramatic colors of all, often not seen in other climates. None of the images have been color enhanced or color adjusted. |

| One of Kirk's very best, and a wonderful name for a wonderful plant. In common with many of Kirk's yellow and peach hybrids this variety gradually changes colour as the season progresses. Early season flowers are normally a lovely soft shade of yellow, but by high summer they take on an ever increasing delicate shade of apricot. This is particularly evident towards the centre of the flowers, hence 'Innerlight'. | ||

One of the most striking features of this variety
is the way it holds its flowers high above the foliage. The flowers
stand bolt upright on what have to be the sturdiest stems of
any hardy water lily. Simply stunning even on young plants.  Another
outstanding feature is the size of 'Innerlight's' flowers, they
are often as large as the leaves. This really sets it aside from
some of the older varieties. One of the earliest lilies to flower
each season and is reliably very free flowering. It can
be viviparous, making new plants from its flowers. |
