I see myself as a minnow in a pond of experts but I must say,
along with my quest to grow Victoria at Tropical Spice
Garden, I have learnt a lot. |

I was born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. I had my tertiary
education in Missouri, USA, where i studied chemistry and biology.
On my return to Malaysia I worked in a manufacturing facility
producing insecticides for about 10 years. There has always been
a conflict within me to do something that I love but doesn't
pay or to do something that pays the bills. After about 10 years
I finally gathered my courage and said, "Forget it! There's
more to life than being cooped up in the sewer plant". |

I am an outdoorsy person. I love to hike, run, bike, and there
has always been a strong connection with the jungle. Being on
an island with the tropical rain forest literally 15 minutes
away from home in any direction helps a lot. This love of mine
has been inculcated from a very young age through many hikes
and camping trips with my friends.

When I found an opening for a job at the Tropical Fruit Farm,
located on the hills in the north-western part of Penang, back
in 1999, I jumped on the opportunity. It was from there that
I started to learn about plants, mainly fruit trees, and everything
that I knew was pretty much self-taught. The tenure lasted for
about seven years. My job at the Tropical Spice Garden came at
the right time for me because, after seven years, I was ready
to move on to something new. And this is where I have been since
2005. |
