Native to South America (Argentina and Paraguay), V. cruziana is characterized by bright green pads with tall rims, the exteriors of which are green sometimes suffused with red. Buds are somewhat pointed with no thorns on the medium pink sepals. The flowers are creamy white the first night with pointed petals becoming light pink the second night.
