Some of us reading the original article The Largest Victoria Pads Ever Recorded! wonder what they are. Since they aren't characteristic of V. amazonica as we know it, we explored the possibility that they could be natural hybrids in the WGI Journal Online article La Rinconada Victorias, Santa Cruz, Bolivia -- What Are They?

To help answer the questions, our Bolivian friends undertook an exciting Expedition to Investigate the Central Bolivian Original Collection Site of La Rinconada Victorias in WGI ONLINE Journal.

"We are in the peak of a very rainy season, so rivers are especially high in volume and the dirt roads are especially bad."

"After crossing the Tijamuchi River it is only 1300 meters to the
place of the Victorias. We were incredibly excited at the sight
of them. . . To take samples and to measure the Victorias we
had to swim over. . .Raul was covered with leeches which
didn't want to leave his skin."
