Near my pine cabin at the Cradle Mountain Lodge
(in Cradle Valley), there were many native animals including
the Wallaby above, which is part of the Kangaroo family. On my
way back to my cabin room, while I was walking the wooden plank
(a shortcut to the room), the Tasmanian Devil at the left came
galloping towards me. I slowed down and quietly snapped this
picture. Sarcophilus harrisii is the world's largest surviving
carnivorous marsupial |

This is Wychwood Garden in Mole
Creek (north-central Tasmania). It is one of the more attractive
"Open Garden" displays I've seen in this part of Tasmania.
I saw many unusual plants growing including the Californian Tree
Poppy (Romneya coulteri) below left and Gunnera tinctoria
below right. |

One of the rather interesting local accommodations was the Pennyroyal
Inn in Launceston. It was really "done-up" in traditional
style. The main reception building was heavily covered with Parthenocissus
quinquefolia. Within the complex, there was a pond with hardy
water lilies growing. > |
