Firstly its colour is remarkable. While young
plants are basically yellow, mature plants at the height of summer
develop into a stunning orange peach.

Secondly its flowers are huge for a relatively
small plant, often almost as large as the leaves. They also stand
higher above the foliage than pretty much any other hardy lily
I know.
Thirdly this hybrid simply doesn't stop flowering.
It's always one of the first to flower each summer and then goes
on and on. Flowers stay open much later in the afternoon than
most varieties. I have often witnessed flower buds reaching the
surface in the middle of winter. Although they fail to open,
it doesn't stop this plant trying time and time again.
Due to its N. mexicana parentage plants
will remain evergreen where the climate allows. |
