We are pleased to offer our 2010 Victoria seeds free of charge to all interested in growing Victoria. We require that you join Water Gardeners International (free of charge). You may join WGI on line or send your membership application with your seed request. Those who have received seeds from us in the past and have not acknowledged their receipt as requested may not apply. You may make your request at any time and specify a later shipping date if you wish. Seeds will be reserved for you even if we should run short later. If no shipping date is specified, we will ship within a week to 10 days. Receipt of your request will be confirmed by email and you will be notified by email of shipment. Please acknowledge receipt of your seeds or you will not be eligible to receive them in future years. Though Victoria is not an easy plant to grow, particularly in the beginning stages, improved germination and early cultivation methods have increased the success rate. PLEASE read the entire Victoria Cultivation Guide before requesting seeds. We want each and every one of you to be successful and your chances will be improved by understanding Victoria's specific needs. Please read the following carefully. Incomplete forms, inadequate postage, lack of labels, etc., will result in your request being discarded without notification. We do not accept checks, credit cards, PayPal or wire transfers for postage. We go to a lot of trouble to provide this service so help us by following the instructions exactly. Please limit your request to one, two or three varieties, particularly if you are a first time Victoria grower. Each type has slightly different requirements and your chances of success will be greater with just one type. We suggest a minimum of 20 seeds. As one of several conditions of filling your request for seeds, you must agree not to propagate or pass on seeds of the F2 or later generations of Victoria. V. 'Adventure' and 'Longwood Hybrid' are F1 hybrids, first time crosses of the two species, consistent in their characteristics plant to plant and year to year. If you cross 'Adventure' or 'Longwood Hybrid' with itself or other hybrids, it will produce what are called F2 seeds. These are highly variable in their characteristics and unreliable. There is a danger that they will be mistaken for the real F1 hybrids or even the species after several generations. Not only may they be disappointing to the grower but they also could make their way into breeding programs and corrupt the gene pool. The back-cross hybrids (F1 x species) are consistent in their characteristics but should not be selfed or crossed for the same reasons as described for the F1's. More about F1's, F2's and F-somethings If you are interested in producing seeds, please contact us and we will help you select the right plant or plants to do so in a way that will benefit the world-wide effort to grow and provide quality "pedigreed" Victorias. Pedigrees - If you would like to learn the lineage of seeds or plants you receive, by name and lot number, see: Victoria Pedigrees Index. Purity - The purity of our breeding stock has been confirmed by DNA analysis in a landmark study conducted by Chicago Botanic Garden. See Investigation: the possibility of hybridization in breeding lineages of Victoria cruziana and V. amazonica DNA Study Results by Keith Hartley and Jeremie Fant. For descriptions of varieties and their relative ease and difficulty see Seed & Plant Recommendations. Throughout your personal adventure with Victoria we will be happy to advise you, privately or by way of updates to this site.
